About Calgary Dog Parks
The most comprehensive, locally-researched guide to off-leash dog parks in Calgary, Alberta.
Our Mission
Calgary is one of the most dog-friendly cities in North America, with over 150 designated off-leash areas spanning thousands of acres. Yet finding accurate, detailed information about these parks has always been a challenge. City listings give you a name and a pin on a map — but nothing about trail conditions, parking, water access, or which parks work best for different dogs.
Calgary Dog Parks was created to fill that gap. Every park profile on this site includes detailed descriptions of terrain, amenities, accessibility, seasonal considerations, and honest assessments of what makes each park special — and what to watch out for.
Our goal is simple: help every Calgary dog owner find the right park for their dog, whether that's a wide-open prairie field for a high-energy Border Collie or a fenced area for a newly adopted rescue still building confidence.
Meet the Founder
Charlie Gillingham is a Calgary-based dog owner, outdoor enthusiast, and the founder of Calgary Dog Parks. After years of exploring off-leash areas across the city with his dogs, Charlie realized that the information available online was scattered, incomplete, and often outdated.
What started as personal notes about favourite parks grew into a comprehensive project to document every off-leash area in Calgary. Charlie has spent hundreds of hours researching, visiting, and photographing Calgary's dog parks — in every season and every weather condition — to create the most thorough and accurate park guides available anywhere.
Charlie combines firsthand experience with research from the City of Calgary's Parks department, local dog training professionals, and veterinary experts to ensure every piece of content on this site is accurate, helpful, and trustworthy.
Our Research Process
Every park profile on Calgary Dog Parks is built from multiple layers of research:
- On-the-Ground Visits: We visit parks across all four seasons to assess trail conditions, drainage, shade coverage, and seasonal changes that affect usability.
- Official City Data: Park boundaries, bylaw information, and amenity details are cross-referenced with the City of Calgary's official parks database.
- Community Input: We gather insights from local dog owners, trainers, and community groups to understand the real-world experience at each park.
- Expert Consultation: Our gear recommendations and training advice are informed by conversations with veterinarians, certified dog trainers, and experienced handlers in the Calgary area.
- Regular Updates: Parks change — trails flood, new fencing goes up, amenities are added or removed. We revisit and update our content regularly to keep it current.
